Hampton 6 - 0 Yaxley

It's going down to the wire between the Whites and Riverside as they tussle to the end for the second and final promotion spot.

The Whites secured a convincing victory against a Yaxley side this morning at Beaumont Way as they broke their two match losing streak in fine fashion. A loss today wouldn't have ended the Whites promotion push but would have handed the initiative to Riverside.
Ben and Reece celebrate Ben's goal

The Whites dominated from the start and rarely looked in trouble - William opened the scoring early on with a tap-in from close range. Plenty of Hampton chances followed but only one more went in before half-time when Cameron cooly finished past the keeper. If the descriptions of the goals seem vague, its because I can't remember all the details such was the excitement.

After half-time, William and Cameron shared the next two goals before Reece slammed the ball low into the corner of the goal and then Ben completed the scoring when he skillfully slotted the ball past the keeper, helpless against such class and quality.

Next up its Farcet away in two weeks. If Hampton win that then they're going up!

No camera today so you'll have to settle for this artists impression of the scene immediately after Hampton's sixth goal.

Wittering 4 - 3 Hampton

The end of the season is in sight now, thats for sure, but there is no surety about which division the Whites will be playing thier football in next season after this away defeat to a much improved Wittering side.

Last time around Hampton put nine goals past Wittering but this time the Whites failed to make their possession and chances count due mainly to the efforts of the outstanding opposition keeper

Hampton opened the scoring in the first-half with Cameron pressuring then beating Wittering's impressive keeper to fire into the net. It wasn't long after before Wittering were on level terms as Lucas tried valiantly but failed to keep the Whites in the lead going into half-time.

Hampton oozed confidence in the second-half with Ben firstly hitting the bar and then firing past the stricken keeper to get the lead. More pressure followed with a string of corners for the Whites. William latched onto a ball at the edge of area following a Bradley corner and fired low and right-footed across the keeper for the third.

Hampton's desire to add to the scoring left gaps at the back and Wittering took full advantage, scoring two quick goals on the break and then with only a few minutes remaining, taking the lead. Hampton still had many chances but didn't manage to find a way past the keeper and have now have to win both of their remaining games to ensure promotion. It's still in their hands. Coach Glen said at the post-match press conference:
"Now we seriously need to win those two games to get second place. The goal difference is sitting pretty but to be sure of getting second place, they must win."
Next up it's the local derby with Yaxley who are third from bottom and then the final game of the season is away to bottom club Farcet a fortnight later.

Riverside 2 - 1 Hampton

Hampton had become unaccustomed to the feeling of defeat but that glum feeling came rolling back as Riverside put on a display this weekend that kept the Whites frustrated. Riverside took away the Whites advantage of a game in hand and climbed into third, just three points behind the Whites with three left to play. It's going to be a close fight for second spot but Parkside remain seven clear in top spot.

Riverside know how to play at home. They defended in numbers and hampered the Whites in midfield on their small and narrow pitch. Hampton had a flurry of chances in the opening minutes but could not make it count and as Riverside adjusted to thwart Hampton's style, the balance of power tilted towards Riverside who opened the scoring and added a second just before half-time. Hampton had plenty of possession and shots on goal but couldn't seem to get close enough.

The pattern of play from the first-half continued with Hampton making most of the running. William pulled a goal back from close range for his fourteenth of the season but despite numerous attacks, Hampton couldn't pull level with the resilient Riverside boys who plugged away admirably till the end.

Next up its 9th placed Wittering Harriers away. Going into the match Hampton will have a 77 goal difference advantage over Wittering but Coach Glen knows that will count for nothing when Saturday comes. To keep on the promotion path, the Whites will need to be at their best.
