Riverside 2 - 1 Hampton

Hampton had become unaccustomed to the feeling of defeat but that glum feeling came rolling back as Riverside put on a display this weekend that kept the Whites frustrated. Riverside took away the Whites advantage of a game in hand and climbed into third, just three points behind the Whites with three left to play. It's going to be a close fight for second spot but Parkside remain seven clear in top spot.

Riverside know how to play at home. They defended in numbers and hampered the Whites in midfield on their small and narrow pitch. Hampton had a flurry of chances in the opening minutes but could not make it count and as Riverside adjusted to thwart Hampton's style, the balance of power tilted towards Riverside who opened the scoring and added a second just before half-time. Hampton had plenty of possession and shots on goal but couldn't seem to get close enough.

The pattern of play from the first-half continued with Hampton making most of the running. William pulled a goal back from close range for his fourteenth of the season but despite numerous attacks, Hampton couldn't pull level with the resilient Riverside boys who plugged away admirably till the end.

Next up its 9th placed Wittering Harriers away. Going into the match Hampton will have a 77 goal difference advantage over Wittering but Coach Glen knows that will count for nothing when Saturday comes. To keep on the promotion path, the Whites will need to be at their best.
